As a youngster I was hell bent on fixing every problem I discovered... only to be sorely disappointed. Today I am not much different. But since moving to a small community, my focus has narrowed from global to local. I see so much that can be done on a small community level and I can even see some success. It is only since technological advances in communication that we have become so aware (and thus desensitised?) to global events, plights, catastrophes. I think this international awareness has come at the cost of local knowledge and belonging.
Didn't someone smarter than me once say: I am the master of my own kingdom? Well a good leader and a good community ensures that the most marginalised and downtrodden are cared for and acknowledged. I will try to be more aware of my own backyard, frontyard, main street and backstreets......

Faust
"'Tis magic, magic, that hath ravish'd me..."
(Christopher Marlowe, Dr Faustus)
Recent reading includes: Whores of the Devil: Witch Hunts and Witch Trials by Erik Durschmeid. Fascinating.
Today I read about Johann Faust, to whom is attributed the saying: 'to sell your soul to the devil'. He was a German scholar who aspired to learn more, more and more and in doing so, struck a deal with the devil that in return for... his soul... he would know it all! The historic figure is very interesting as there is all sort of discussion as to whether he really was who the historical accounts say he was.
But what strikes me as the most interesting is... what price for all the knowledge in the world?

the dark and the new
Dark Moon
Waning and dark moon rites are for guidance and understanding, and for assimilation of wisdom on inner levels. It is a time for quiet inward reflection, reaping the fruits of our wisdom and experience.
New Moon
The new moon is sacred to the maiden of the triple moon goddess, bringing inspiration and intution. It is like a new seed, full pof potential and energy. TRhe new moon is the time for new beginnings, the time to begin new projects, new directions, new resolutions. It is the best time for invocation and speaking out your intent.(Ref': Kindred, 2007)
The dark of the Moon is the most powerful time psychically. It seems to lure us toward the deepest self, the longings of the soul, and restful listening is a great way to receive these messages. It's been compared to the dormant seed under the winter snow, or the cocoon holding the butterfly. You might feel tired, or crave quiet solitude. It's important to make space for the unfolding of the spirit at this time. Like death itself, it's preparation for the new beginning that begins with the crescent. Each dark Moon is a chance to be renewed, to experience unknowing, and to gain timeless wisdom. The dark Moon opens a door to the past, and it reaches back far into the collective memory. Make it a sacred time for yourself each month, a time to connect to the great mystery of life.

wyrd is weird
Wyrd is the unfolding of our personal destiny. It has sometimes been translated into modern English as ‘fate’. But it is much deeper than that. It does not see our lives as ‘pre-determined’. Rather, it is an all-encompassing view which connects us to all things, thoughts, emotions, events in the cosmos as if through the threads of an enormous, invisible but dynamic web. Today, scientists know intellectually that all things are interconnected. But the power of Wyrd is to realise this in our inner being, and to know how to use it to manifest our personal destiny. (ref: Brian Bates wayofwyrd.com)
It can not be understood, yet we already understand.
It can not be controlled, yet we have choices.
